"I can not reccomend Little Blooms Photography enough. I fell in love when I saw previous photos of hers and immediately knew I was booking with her for my daughters 1st birthday shoot. We have done 3 different shoots and I can't wait til the next one because she captures my kids perfectly." - Angela T.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book my baby's session?
Cake smashes take place around 11-12 months of age, so please contact me by the time baby is 8-10 months old. I can occasionally accommodate a last minute session, but typically I book up at least a month or two in advance.
Do you do cake smashes for older kids?
Of course! My daughter requested one for her 6th birthday and it was a blast, even more fun than when she was one. Age 2 is also great for a cake smash, especially if you missed out when they turned one. You could do a paint splash instead of cake too. The possibilities and ages are endless!
How long will the session last?
Your session will last 60-90 minutes. Typically the first 10-15 minutes will be getting to know your child and simply playing to ease them into the new environment.
When will my session take place?
Cake smash sessions should be scheduled when your baby is happiest! That means, after a good nap and possibly a small snack (not too much because we want them to be a bit hungry). Some babies are great car sleepers and can get their snooze on the way to the studio, if it is a long distance. Typically most parents schedule these sessions after baby's morning nap, usually around 11am-1pm. However, they can be scheduled anytime during business hours.
What kind of cake should I get?
Cakes should be a two-tiered 4-6" cake. They should be vanilla (no chocolate!), and have fluffy icing for easy smashing. Icing colors should be white or pastels as bright/dark colors tend to stain skin. You can make your own or find a reputable baker. Two local bakers that I recommend are The Kake Lady (Quarryville) and the Cake Crafter (West Chester). If your child has allergies, Butter Cream Bliss by Bina makes amazing vegan cakes (dairy and egg free, soy-free upon request). All of the above bakers can accommodate nut-free ingredients.
What should my baby wear?
I have a large variety of outfits here that fit babies 6-18 months to make the experience stress free. There are dresses and rompers in neutrals and pastel colors for baby girls and onesies, overalls, and suspender sets for baby boys. However, if you choose to bring your own outfit please choose one that fits the theme and colors. My favorite shops to choose outfits from are Mia Joy Studio, Cora and Violet, Indigo and Lace, Threads & Evergreen, Pretty Pink Ruffles, Fox & Heron, and of course Gap Kids and Janie & Jack if you need something in store and quickly.
How much does a session cost?
The session fee is $200 and prints and products are sold separately at the Viewing & Ordering appointment. Clients receive the complimentary matching digital files for anything they order in any print (aka hard copy) form. There are 6 collections that range from $990-3190, plus an la la carte list, and clients typically invest $1800+ at the Viewing & Ordering appointment on their wall art, albums or collection boxes. For more information, please visit the Investment & Art page.
What will happen after the session?
After your portrait session, I will start working on preparing your gallery and 3-10 days later, we will have your Viewing & Ordering Appointment. This is when you will get to see all your beautiful images, choose your favorites, and decide how you would like to proudly display them in your home!
Do you have any options for clients who aren't interested in printed products or have a lower budget?
I feel very passionately about helping clients to have tangible, long-lasting, high-quality, heirloom prints and products that they can enjoy now and that can get passed down through generations rather than images just living on a computer or cloud somewhere. However, I do offer sessions for clients who have no interest in printed work. These are my SIMPLICITY SESSIONS. For a cake smash, there is a $550 all-inclusive fee, meaning that cost covers the ~30-45 minute session and 10 digital images of your choice. Additional digital images can be purchased at $50/ea. A simple, all white set-up will be used and babies have access to studio wardrobe. We will still do portraits of your child before the cake, with the cake you bring, and a bath. Images will be chosen immediately after the session (allow approximately 30-45 minutes for this). Clients can add parent poses for $150 with 3 extra digital images, add a sibling pose for $150 with 2 extra digital images, and/or a full family (nuclear, not extended family) pose for $150 with 2 extra digital images.

"Kristen is amazing! She was very professional and made us feel so comfortable at the same time. She was patient and kind with my daughter who was constantly on the move. She captured beautiful memories. I cannot wait to see the rest of the pictures from my daughter’s first birthday shoot. I would highly recommend Kristen and Little Blooms Photography. We will definitely be back!" - Moira M.
