Last week I had this cutie pie in the studio when he was only 6 days old. I remember when mom first booked back in December and how excited she was! Finally, after months of waiting, the day was finally here and I was so excited to meet them all. And baby Nolan did not disappoint. He was a rock star for his very first photo shoot! I don't think I've ever had a baby give me this many smiles or been so expressive in their sleep! I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet family last weekend when little Dominic was only 4 days old. And he is as adorable as he is strong! I've never seen a newborn with such awesome strength and head control. He is definitely going to be a boy on the move and a go-getter! Love it!! Although my hands were on him most of the time since he wasn't really into the whole sleeping thing, I thought for sure he was going to roll himself over at 4 days old! When I finally did get him to doze off, he was an excellent little model! He definitely loved being warm, cozy, and swaddled! And of course we had to sneak some Notre Dame and Pittsburg Steelers items in there for his family. I don't think anything can prepare you for the sleepless nights or how hard it is to watch your child be sick and can't do anything to help except give Tylenol. Disciplining a child is tough, as is sending your child to daycare or school for the first time. Being completely responsible for a tiny human, making sure they stay alive, and thrive, and grow up to be a kind, smart, responsible adult is a big task! It is by far the hardest job in the world!! However, it is also the most rewarding. Watching that tiny human grow, learn at an astonishing rate, and have their own personality, there's just nothing like it. My children are my world and even though I love watching them thrive, I really do want to freeze time. We are done having kids, and I will miss seeing a smile for the first time, hearing my baby's first laugh, being excited over their first words and steps. Today, Lila turned 19 months old, which means she is closer to 2 years than 1, and it makes me so sad to realize that I really don't have a "baby" anymore. That's hard. Blake is now 4, and he has learned how to ride a big bike, write his name, count to 30, identify all his letters, zip, unzip, and unbutton his clothes, and so many other wonderful things! But, before I know it, he will be in school full time, then a moody teenager, and he won't want me to read him stories before bed, or cuddle on the couch. Hard. Parenting is amazing, and rewarding, and gives you all those warm and fuzzies, but it's tough too. Tough to watch them grow so quickly, and the years go by faster and faster every year. So for now, I'll try to capture all these wonderful memories so I can remember my babies as they are. Fun. Sweet. Curious. Energetic. Smart. Perfect. I just can't wait until after this family's gallery reveal on Sunday to share these images, so I'm totally cheating and sharing now! Miss Gabriella's nursery is elephant themed, so I purchased this adorable hat and lovey set for her session and I'm in love with how adorable they look with her! Sooo cute, and purple is definitely her color! LOVE!!! He was a dream to photograph and look at all this adorable blonde hair! His nursery was equally adorable, decorated in gray, white, and teal with so many stuffed animals. Thank you McKelvey family for allowing me to capture this special time in your lives and I hope to work with you again in the future! The feeling is so much more love than anyone could ever describe. I do this job not simply because I enjoy it, but because I want to give parents those memories every time they look at their newborn photos. I want them to remember that first hug, the way their newborn smelled, the way their baby fit so perfectly in their arms, and every tiny detail from their little lashes to their tiny toes. I hope every time mom and dad look at these pictures of baby Lydia throughout the years, that they are brought back to this special time and smile, heart full of wonderful memories. Everyone was anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby Luke, especially since he was born 8 days past his due date, but he was DEFINITELY worth the wait! Look at his chubby cheeks, that hair, and those perfect little fingers and toes!!! Even though editing is not my favorite thing to do, I enjoyed every minute of looking at this sweet face again and again. He was by far my sleepiest baby yet and once he finally let me un-clench his fists, he was a dream to pose. I feel very lucky that he is on my Watch Me Grow Plan so I can see this cutie pie two more times in his first year- once he can sit independently and for his first birthday cake smash. I know I say it all the time, but I seriously have the best job in the world! I love watching these little ones grow up and I love that I am able to capture these special memories for the parents. Both of our oldest boys are in the same preschool class together, so of course I was more than happy to snuggle the newest member of the family! I came to their home on Sunday morning when baby Nolan was 4 days old, and he was a dream! He is going to have so much fun growing up with his 2 older brothers, Louie and Ryder. I feel so blessed that I will get to photograph her again when she is able to sit and for her first birthday since she is on my Watch Me Grow Plan! Mom and Dad did not find out what they were having beforehand, so we didn't have specific colors planned. Once I knew it was a girl, I had a vision with mint, peach, and cream, and thankfully Keira's mommy approved! I think I got Keira's approval too with all these adorable smiles she gave me! People always ask me if they need to bring anything for a session, and the answer is no. I have everything I need to make your session special. However, if you'd like to bring something of your own, maybe sentimental, just give me a head's up so I can figure out how to incorporate it ahead of time. People also frequently ask where I get some of my hats/headbands so they can purchase their own to keep, so I think I will start to list them with each session. White pearl headband, peach wrap and headband, and teddy hat from The Tiny Blessings Boutique, peach headband from Bonnetique, large peach flower/white headband from The Indy Cottage Prop Shop, and cream outfit from Cute as Can Be Props (look for the outfit again as it came as a set with a matching sitter outfit!). Last Saturday I was introduced to yet another wonderful family and their new addition, baby Elinor. I just love pink and white on little girls, so I was excited when mom chose those colors for this session. Baby Elinor was as sweet and adorable as they come, but for an 8 day old, she was also very opinionated and feisty! She was happy to sleep, but did not want to be disturbed in that process, so I had to be extra careful and slow when positioning her, and if she didn't like it, she let me know! Elinor also has a fabulous and adorable big sister and I know they are going to be great friends as they grow up! Two weekends ago, on Valentine's Day, I had the pleasure of meeting this little peanut, baby Penelope at 11 days old, along with her wonderful parents. She was born 4 weeks early and was a mere 4.5/5lbs when I saw her. But, look at how she just fits in mom and dad's arms so perfectly! I always say that newborn photography is so important because you will want to remember all those tiny details and babies grow so unbelievably quickly that they will never fit in your arms quite the same as they do within the first couple of weeks. Capture those memories!! Times like this really make me believe in the 6 degrees of separation theory. Baby Micah's mom found out about me through her triplet sisters, who are Facebook friends with the teacher who worked in the classroom next to mine, and who they helped out, when I taught in Lancaster over 4 years ago. Did you follow that? Small world huh? Well in any case, I'm certainly glad she reached out because I just loved photographing this precious little dude (check out his adorable forehead wrinkles!!) and his fabulous parents! I also loved that we got to use my dark wood in his session! Little Jacob and his wonderful family came to visit me in the studio when he was 12 days old. As much as he loved being wrapped, I of course needed to get some unwrapped shots because he has the absolute hands-down best baby rolls ever! I just wanted to cuddle and squeeze him all day!! Baby Connor was the last newborn I had in the studio before this blizzard hit, so I'm a little late in posting since we were outside trying to shovel 30 inches of snow, plus try to spend some time with kids in the snow. Hopefully his parents won't be too upset with me once they see these! I mean, look at this cutie pie! I think he has the most perfect little button nose ever, and he even smiled for the camera during family shots! *swoon!!* Last weekend I traveled to Collegeville for this little lady's first birthday party. Mom had picked out 2 adorable outfits for her to wear and had a beautiful dessert table on display. The decorations and cake even coordinated with Marin's outfits. While I was there, I was able to photograph Marin with her relatives and was a first hand witness to the love that surrounds her and the entire family. It made me wish I had hired someone else to take pictures at my own kids' parties! Last week I went back to Lancaster, PA to photograph a former co-workers new baby boy, Connor. Born more than a week early at only 6lbs 1oz, he was teeny tiny and reminded me of my own peanuts when they were born. But, he was a much better sleeper! In fact I think he was my sleepiest, most easy going baby so far. He only woke up when we went upstairs to his nursery for parent shots. Mom and Dad sure are blessed with this little bundle of joy! Come on now, just look at that adorableness!! I wish I could share more of the fantastic holiday set-ups we did, but Mom is saving them as a surprise for their holiday cards. ;-) For those of you on their list, get ready for the cuteness overload! The Sunday before Thanksgiving I had a session with this wonderful family. Little Henry and big sister Sawyer are absolutely adorable! Henry was a tough cookie to crack, but I did get a couple of half smiles from him and I'm pretty sure Sawyer would have let me take her picture all day as long as I had enough gummies. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I feel so lucky to have a place like Longwood Gardens right down the street. Even on as cold of days as this, we had a nice, warm, beautiful place to take pictures at. I also feel so lucky that I get to work with so many incredibly nice families, such as this one, who are trusting me enough to capture memories and freeze time in photographs they can look back on for years to come. Last weekend I was lucky enough to photograph the wonderful B Family. Mom wanted a rustic country barn-feel to the session so we headed out to the Myrick Center. It was super cold that day, but in-between running for jackets and warm hugs, we managed to get some incredible shots. I really could have photographed them all day because they were so easy to work with and fabulous! I had a hard time narrowing down which images to put up here because I love them all. I know the mom is keeping these pictures a surprise for the holiday, but I hope she loves them all too! I was so happy to welcome baby Maia, her parents, and her grandmother into my studio the other week. Coming all the way from Harrisburg, she obviously slept during the car ride, so I made sure to get some swaddled, awake shots and parent shots first. Then, it was time for another feeding and finally sleep! Look at all that hair!! And those squeezable cheeks!! Isn't she just the sweetest? I really love newborns, and when they are this adorable and perfect, it really gives me baby fever! Baby Emily was 9 days old when she came to see me at my studio, and she brought along her wonderful big sister Ava, mom, and dad. She was such a calm baby, had the most perfect skin, and really does look so much like her sister! |
